This film recorded the excellent ‘Yards Ahead’ scheme during 2007/08. This involved, amongst a whole range of fun family activities, recruiting 160 ‘Library Champions’ who take part in educational sessions, buy books and put them on the shelves. This year differed to the previous year’s project as previous Library Champions acted as mentors, guiding younger pupils through the process and making them even more effective in championing the library to friends and family. Children also played a far greater role in shaping library services, deciding upon holiday activities.
The film was premiered at a Chief Librarians’ event in Solihull and the 200 DVDs produced are now being distributed by librarians in the Constituency to ensure that these methods of working are widely adopted and supported across not just Birmingham but across the country.
